About us
About the laboratory
Onelab is a Finnish asbestos analysis laboratory specialising in the investigation of building materials for asbestos. Our aim is to offer reliable, fast and affordable asbestos analysis to everyone - private customers, construction companies and surveyors alike.
Our story
Why was Onelab founded?
In Finland, asbestos analysis has traditionally been expensive and slow. Onelab was founded to change that - we wanted to make high-quality asbestos analysis accessible to everyone.
We invested in a modern SEM electron microscope and streamlined our process so that we can offer the most affordable asbestos analysis in Finland without compromising on quality. Every sample is analysed with the same care, to the ISO 22262-1 standard.
We believe that an asbestos analysis should not be an obstacle to starting a renovation. The affordable price and fast delivery time help both individuals and professionals to make the right decisions in connection with renovations.
We serve customers all over Finland. Samples come by post, so where the laboratory sits makes no difference, and the results arrive by email - fast and effortless.
Equipment
Laboratory equipment
Scanning electron microscope (SEM)
The SEM is the heart of the laboratory. It produces highly precise images of the sample surface using a focused electron beam. Magnification reaches up to 100,000 times, which is what makes small asbestos fibres detectable.
- Detects fibres under 1 μm
- Produces high-resolution images
- Allows fibre morphology to be examined
Energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS)
The EDS unit is built into the SEM and measures the chemical composition of the fibres in real time. The LIVE-EDS function reads each fibre's elemental profile instantly.
- Real-time elemental analysis (LIVE-EDS)
- Elemental mapping (LIVE-MAP)
- Unambiguous asbestos typing
Quality assurance
Standards and methods
ISO 22262-1
All our analyses are carried out to the international ISO 22262-1 standard, which sets out the requirements for identifying asbestos in solid materials using a SEM electron microscope and EDS elemental analysis.
ISO 22262-1 is widely recognised as the most reliable basis for asbestos analysis. It requires both visual identification of the fibres (morphology) and chemical confirmation (elemental analysis), which minimises both false positives and false negatives.
All 6 types of asbestos
We identify chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, tremolite, actinolite and anthophyllite.
Two-step verification
First visual identification from SEM images, then chemical confirmation with EDS elemental analysis.
Documented process
Every analysis is documented and archived. The reports follow a standardised format.
