Why Onelab
A reliable laboratory throughout Finland
How the sample is examined
Samples arriving from Vantaa are analysed with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope. The electron microscope reveals the individual fibres and EDS elemental analysis confirms their composition, so that anthophyllite and chrysotile, for instance, can be told apart. The examination follows the ISO 22262-1 standard, and the sample is analysed as a rule on the day it arrives.
What the result means for the demolition work
A positive result moves the job into the scope of asbestos removal work: only an authorised contractor may carry it out, and the site must be sectioned off and kept under negative pressure. This applies to small household projects too. A negative result frees the project from these requirements and provides a document that can be attached to the renovation paperwork.
