Why Onelab
A reliable laboratory throughout Finland
Why an electron microscope and not an ordinary one
Samples arriving from Jyväskylä are examined with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope. An ordinary light microscope does not separate all asbestos fibres from other mineral fibres, because identification then rests on appearance. The EDS elemental analysis coupled to the electron microscope measures the elemental composition of the fibre, so identification rests on data. The examination is carried out in accordance with the ISO 22262-1 standard.
The result and what follows
The answer states whether the material examined contains asbestos and of which type. A positive result means that only an authorised contractor may carry out the demolition work. A negative result is a document that can be attached to the renovation paperwork. You receive the result by email as a rule on the day the sample arrives.
