Why Onelab
A reliable laboratory throughout Finland
How the analysis is done
From the apartment stock of Päijät-Häme, floor adhesive samples are the most common. Fibres are identified with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope; the criteria come from the ISO 22262-1 standard. The electron microscope separates individual fibres and EDS elemental analysis measures their mineral composition, so the asbestos types can be told apart reliably. The sample is analysed as a rule on the day it arrives.
What the result means for the renovation
A positive result means that removing the material has to be done as asbestos removal work by an authorised contractor. A negative result is documented proof that can be attached to the renovation paperwork and the housing company records. The binding limit value of 0.01 fibres/cm³ has applied to all asbestos work since 21 December 2025, which underlines the importance of a written result.
