Posting an asbestos sample is an easy, safe and quick way to have a building material tested. The service suits private individuals, housing companies and contractors anywhere in Finland. You do not have to live near the laboratory - the sample travels reliably by post.

Who is the postal service for?

Posting an asbestos sample suits home renovators especially well, when they want to know whether a material contains asbestos before removal work begins. It is also widely used by housing companies that need an analysis result for renovation planning, and by construction professionals sending samples in regularly from all over Finland.

The postal sample service works particularly well for checking a single material. The asbestos content of vinyl flooring adhesive, tile adhesive or wall filler, for instance, can be settled quickly with one sample.

How do I pack a sample for the post?

Pack the sample in a Minigrip bag or another sealable plastic bag. Close it carefully so that the sample cannot come into contact with anything else. Put the sealed bag inside a second bag or an envelope for extra protection. Label the sample clearly: write down where it came from, what the material is and the date.

As you pack it, make sure the sample is big enough - a piece of about 2-5 cm is plenty. Tiny crumbs are hard to analyse reliably. If you are sending several samples in one parcel, pack each in its own bag and number them clearly.

Several samples in one parcel

You can send several samples in the same parcel. That is particularly handy when you are renovating several rooms and want different materials tested at once. Pack each sample separately, label them clearly and enclose a list. The laboratory analyses each sample separately and reports the results sample by sample.

Sending several samples at once saves on postage and speeds up the process overall. You get all the results at the same time, which makes planning the renovation easier.

Postage and turnaround

Send the parcel by ordinary post to our laboratory address. A sample sent in a small parcel or an envelope normally takes 1-3 working days to arrive. Once it reaches the laboratory, it is analysed that same day.

You will have the results by email on the day the sample arrives at the laboratory. If it is urgent, contact the laboratory - you can also bring the sample in person, which removes the postal delay altogether.

A nationwide service

Our postal service covers the whole of Finland. Whether you are in Helsinki, Oulu, Kuopio or Rovaniemi, you send the sample to us the same way. That is particularly useful in areas with no local asbestos laboratory: the postal network reaches the whole country equally well.

A clear process from start to finish

Posting an asbestos sample is a straightforward business: take the sample, pack it, put it in the post and get the results by email. There is no appointment to book and nobody has to come out to the site. The process is designed to be as easy as possible, so you can concentrate on planning your renovation.

If you have any questions about taking, packing or posting a sample, do get in touch with our customer service. We are glad to advise, so that the sample comes from the right material and reaches us in good order.
