Analysis of insulation and marine materials
From the industrial properties of Kotka come insulation samples in which the fibres are bound into a binder. Identification is done with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope in accordance with the ISO 22262-1 standard. Marine and industrial insulation often used amosite and crocidolite, which belong to the amphibole group of asbestos and are the types most dangerous to health. EDS elemental analysis separates them from chrysotile on the basis of measured composition.
What the result means
Finding amphibole asbestos underlines the importance of the protection level during demolition. A positive result means asbestos removal work by an authorised contractor, and the site must be sectioned off and kept under negative pressure. The binding limit value of 0.01 fibres/cm³ has applied to all asbestos work since 21 December 2025. You receive the answer in writing by email.
