A reliable laboratory throughout Finland
How the sample is examined
Samples from the Salo region are most often floor coverings and their bonding adhesives. Fibres are separated with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope, and classification follows the ISO 22262-1 standard. The electron microscope separates individual fibres and EDS elemental analysis measures their elemental composition, so the asbestos types can be told apart. The sample is logged and analysed as a rule on the day it arrives.
What the answer means
The result states whether the material examined contains asbestos and of which type. A positive result moves the job into the scope of asbestos removal work: it is carried out by an authorised contractor in a space that is sectioned off and kept under negative pressure. A negative result is a document with which the renovation can begin normally. The answer is delivered in writing by email.
